Research Fellowship Opportunities at the University of Bristol

Plant Science Research at Bristol is expanding. The new School of Life Sciences is seeking highly motivated individuals to join us as Independent Research Fellows. We recognise the importance of this step in the career of a young researcher and are keen to assist outstanding individuals with their applications, their integration into the School and their development. If you are interested in applying for a Fellowship to be based in the School of Life Sciences, or would like to move here on an existing Fellowship, please contact the Chair of the Research Committee, Professor Simon Hiscock (Simon.hiscock @ bristol.ac.uk) to arrange a visit.

South West Doctoral Training Partnership

The South West Doctoral Training Partnership (SWDTP) is led by the University of Bristol, together with the University of Exeter, the University of Bath, and Rothamsted Research. These institutions present a distinctive cadre of bioscience research staff and students, with established international, national and regional networks, and widely recognised research excellence. As research leaders, we have a strong track record in advancing knowledge through high quality research and teaching, in partnership with industry and government.

The South West Doctoral Training Partnership is one of a limited number of doctoral training partnerships funded by the BBSRC to provide PhD training across the UK in areas of strategic relevance. Bristol provides training in two key areas: food security, and world-class bioscience, with approximately 20 studentships available each year across the partnership.

The scheme particularly aims to provide students with excellent cross-disciplinary research training in line with the current BBSRC strategy. Our students will be exposed to the expertise of all the partners by visiting / using their facilities, taking part in joint conferences, workshops and taught modules. To further the collaboration between the partnership, cross-institutional PhD projects will be featured that build on the expertise of each partner.
