The Henderson lab uses Arabidopsis to understand meiotic recombination and the factors that influence crossover frequency along chromosomes. They use a combination of experimental and population genetics approaches that take advantage of the outstanding genomic resources available in Arabidopsis. They have shown that Arabidopsis crossover hotspots are located at gene promoters and are investigating the extent to which DNA sequence versus epigenetic information determine these patterns. More recently, they have used natural genetic variation to identify modifiers of recombination present in wild Arabidopsis populations.
